Scott Hennen
General Manager of WDAY Radio and the Host of Hot Talk (8:45AM-Noon, M-F)
Scott Hennen was born into a radio family. His dad, Jerry, started in the business in
Beloit, Wisconsin in 1962. Scott was born in 1964. His parents later owned or operated
radio stations in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. Scott started as a part-time
announcer Sunday mornings on KDMA in Montevideo, Minnesota at the age of 12. He
later worked at KQWI radio Clarinda, Iowa...KOKK Radio in Huron, South
Dakota...KMGM Radio in Montevideo, Minnesota and KCNN/KZLT Radio in Grand
Forks, North Dakota where he was General Manager and a Talk Show Host.
After 17 years in Grand Forks, Scott accepted a position with Forum Communications
in August of 2001. He was named General Manager of WDAY-AM, as well as host of
Hot Talk on WDAY, KCNN and the Hot Talk Network. He's interviewed President's, First
lady's, Vice Presidents, Governor's, countless members of Congress and much more.
He has broadcast from the White House, Pentagon, New Hampshire primaries,
Republican and Democrat National Conventions and from Fort Carlson, Colorado for
training of National Guard troops going to Iraq. His daily talk show, Hot Talk, is heard
weekdays from 8:30 AM to 11:30. It's home to news, information and opinion on the
big stories locally, regionally and nationwide. No locally based talk show in the country
boasts more big-name newsmakers as regular guests, than Hot-Talk.
Talkers Magazine has named him one of the Top-100 Most Important Talk Show Hosts
in America in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and again in 2005. The Wall-Street
Journal has called him the "Rush Limbaugh of the Prairie." Hennen is a longtime
conservative and was a member of the Young Republicans Club in High School. His
National & International Media Appearances include FOX News Channel, CNN,
MSNBC, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Reuters and more.
He also played a key part during the recovery efforts during the 1997 flooding of the
Red River. Aside from a short time off the air to move studios, Scott in partnership with
FEMA kept KCNN on the air despite the entire city being enveloped by flooding water
and a fire a few blocks from the studios. Together they changed the face of disaster
and recovery radio forever. He played a key role in the passage of a vote on the
22,000 seat arena, the Alerus Center. He was on the original design committee at the
$100 million dollar Ralph Engelstad Arena. Along with the late Mr. Engelstad and
others, he helped furnish and select the design of the arena.
He and his wife Maria have three children..... Alex, Hannah and Haley.
